Al Zubarah Fort Qatar

Al Zubarah in Qatar is a World UNESCO Heritage site and one of the best road trips to do on a weekend from Doha.

An Arab fort built using the traditional Qatari techniques. The small fort was used by the coast guards until it was turned into a museum. The fort now displays findings from the Al Zubarah archeological area and gives visitors an insight into the history of the Pearl divers who lived in the Zubarah coastal town. In 1938 the fort was rebuilt on the ruins of an older castle that had been destroyed.

It was a fun road trip with friends and even though the fort is not as large as one expects it to be, it is definitely worth a visit and a great weekend drive to see the rest of Qatar and catch a glimpse of flamingos in the distance.

Share with friends who would love to go on a road trip!
