Why paper? “What appeals to me the most about paper as a medium is that it is such a novel idea, has tremendous potential to create a WOW moment, and it encourages the audience to inquire more about it. So one thing that makes this form of art distinctive is… it’s an “Unconventional Art in a Conventional World”.”

Shazia has given me a whole new appreciation for a piece of paper. As she puts it, “Paper is one of the tremendous artistic chameleons. It’s this fascinating dichotomy that entices creatives to experiment and use paper art as the centerpiece of their work.”

Drawing is a forgotten art form. After admiring Shehlas self-taught pieces of art, and listening to her story of how she started expressing her talent as a child, I realize the importance of honing young talent when we recognize it. Shehla’s love for Qatar shows in her powerful images of Qatar.
