Deliveroo and Mind Institute  Empower Riders with Inclusivity Training

Deliveroo Qatar has partnered with Mind Institute, Qatar’s leading multidisciplinary therapy clinic, to provide specialized training for its riders on interacting effectively with individuals with special needs.  This initiative underscores Deliveroo’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), fostering inclusivity and promoting effective engagement within diverse communities.

The workshop, led by Mind Institute’s Clinical Lead, opened with an interactive Q&A, where riders shared experiences and discussed questions openly. A theoretical overview followed, covering various types of disabilities, including physical, sensory, developmental, and mental health, while addressing common misconceptions. Riders then learned effective communication strategies for managing interactions sensitively. Finally, a role-playing segment allowed them to practice empathy and supportive interactions in real-life scenarios.

“At Deliveroo, we believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive community, both within our company and in the broader community we serve. By collaborating with Mind Institute, we aim to empower our riders with the knowledge and understanding to better connect with and support individuals with disabilities. It’s a small step that can make a big difference,” said Yazan Aburaqabah, the Director of Operations at Deliveroo Middle East.

Azza Abdelrahman, Director of Programs at Mind Institute, stated, “Our partnership with Deliveroo is a meaningful opportunity to extend our mission by equipping riders with essential skills to engage effectively and sensitively with individuals with special needs. This initiative goes beyond just awareness; it’s about fostering real, respectful connections that empower those with diverse abilities in their daily interactions. We are proud to collaborate with Deliveroo in championing a more inclusive community and look forward to seeing the positive impact this training will bring.”

Upon successful completion of the training, riders were awarded a certificate acknowledging their commitment to inclusivity and enhanced customer service, in addition to being encouraged to share the skills and knowledge they acquired with the rest of the fleet. This initiative not only fortifies Deliveroo’s service quality and reinforces its dedication to being an active, beneficial part of the communities it serves, but also underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing rider wellbeing by equipping them with necessary skills and knowledge.
