International Plastic Bag Free Day, celebrated on July 3 each year, is a global initiative dedicated to reducing plastic pollution and raising awareness about the environmental issues caused by plastic bags.
This year’s campaign, held in collaboration with QTerminals and the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change, features Al Meera using 100 000 paper bags across all its branches, encouraging customers to embrace eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic bags.
This effort not only aims to reduce plastic waste but also to foster a culture of environmental responsibility within Qatar’s society.
The campaign featured an awareness booth set up by the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change in Al Meera Ain Khalid. A team of professionals were on-site to educate and spread awareness to the public about the rising need to have environment friendly practices in daily life.
Customers also have the opportunity to participate in an engaging quiz with vouchers worth a total of QR 5000 being awarded as prizes.
Through its Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) at various locations nationwide, Al Meera has facilitated the recycling of millions of bottles and cans, awarding participating customers with Meera rewards points through its recycling initiatives.
Al Meera invites all its customers and the wider Qatar community to join hands in this campaign and take a step towards a plastic-free future.
