Guide to Education City Mosque

“Knowledge equals light” with “knowledge” being the faculty and “light” being the mosque was the inspiration behind @minaretein.

One of my favourite mosques in the world, the 35 000m² building has two minarets which stretch up to 90 metres into the sky and point muslims in the direction of Qiblah (the direction to pray- towards Makkah in Saudi Arabia).

• 2 000 tons of steel were used for the two large minarets.

• Written on the minarets are verses of the Qur’an about the importance of learning and contemplation.

• The exterior of the mosque is covered with embossed verses from the Qur’an.

• Calligraphy is an essential element in the building that wraps around the central courtyards and minaret.

• Male and Female prayer areas are available.

• Jummah prayer is translated into sign language, English and Urdu.

Minaratein houses Education City Mosque and several of HBKU programs including the Faculty of Islamic Studies, College of Law and College of Public Policy.
