There is an increasing awareness to recycle in Qatar and an overall wanting to know how we can better the environment we live in. Sadly, there is a lack of general knowledge on how to go about recycling in Qatar and a misconception that recycling does not exist.

There are various ways of recycling Electronics in Qatar
Startech Stores:
Have old phones or devices at home? Need the latest gadgets? Startech Store can EXCHANGE OR TRADE IN your old cellphone or devices.
We have used their exchange service many times and love the convenience. It is a great way to recycle old devices and not accumalate things that will lose value.

Al Meera has become a supermarket leader in the recycling drive in Qatar. If you drop a plastic bottle or a can into the machine, you can earn reward points. These points can be used later at Al Meera Qatar outlets.

Elite Paper Recycling is the largest paper factory in Qatar. They have invested in visiting schools in Doha to teach students about recycling.

The first food rescue program in the region and has been operating under Eid Charity Qatar since 2008 to collect excess food from banquets, ceremonies, hotels and restaurants.
The center is collecting cooked and dry goods as well as furniture, devices, clothes (in good condition).

Doha Environmental Actions is a group dedicated to cleaning up Doha. There are regular weekend meet ups that are advertised on their Facebook and Instagram page to make the beaches and historical sites in the country more beautiful and cleaner. One can take one’s own vehicle or jump in with one of the other volunteers
How can I get involved?
Do not LITTER and try to reuse and recycle instead of throwing away items such as glass and packets.
Join Organisations such as Doha Environmental Actions group and make sure you dispose of your rubbish responsibly.
Recycling at The Pearl
Residents have reported recycling bins in Porto Arabiya Tower 7, 8, 9 & 10 Porto Arabiya and Viva Bahriya at Isola Dana Mosque
Clothing collection:
There is a clothing collection bin by Abu Hanifa Elementary School for boys.
Collection boxes have also been seen in the Pearl at Qanat Quartier and a collection box in Porto Arabiya tower 16 garage.
I found large clothing collection bins in the Pearl Mosques parking lot.
RECYCLING ORGANISATIONS IN QATAR
QGBC:
Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) is on a mission to create awareness , understanding and to educate others to develop environmentally friendly habits.
QGBC has now launched a mobile application called Green Life Hero featuring tips on how to become more environmentally friendly, create awareness around events, and gives users special offers when they accumulate points in the app by making eco-friendly decisions.
QGBC hosts a ‘No Paper Day Qatar’ in April across Qatar. No Paper Day helps us reflect on and assess how companies, institutions and schools in Qatar can reduce and recycle their waste.

Venues in Qatar that are recycling:
In the park of Dahl al Hammam there are large recycling banks for paper, aluminum, plastic, and glass
At Museum of Islamic art (MIA) there are bins for Paper, Plastic and Cans. These are located at various points including outside the education centre and near the parking garage.
What can I do?
Most supermarkets sell durable & reusable bags
Use rechargeable batteries as it takes 1,000 regular batteries to equal the lifespan of one rechargeable battery. When you are discarding your batteries, recycle them.
The Law:
In October 2017, HH The Emir approved a new law on public hygiene that prohibits littering in public spaces. Law No 18 of 2017 stipulates that people caught littering can be fined up to QR25,000 and given a one-year jail sentence. The law defines littering as leaving, dumping, or disposing of waste at undesignated places.
Clarifying the littering offences and the fines:
* Leaving waste, trash bags, food waste or waste paper in front of houses, roads or public places — QR300.
* Washing vehicles or machinery in unacceptable places — QR300
* Throwing tissue paper, waste, empty cans and garbage or spitting on the sidewalks or public places — QR500.
* Throwing or leaving waste, rubbish, trash bags or empty cans on the front of public stores or shops or outside the waste bins — QR500
* Throwing or leaving food waste in gardens, on the beach, in public places or land space — QR500.
