Brunch at Opal at St. Regis

The Lazy Saturday Brunch at Opal by Gordon Ramsay

If you are like me buffet brunches overwhelm me and stress me out. The mountains of food and the decisions that need to be made on what to choose (and me wanting to taste them ALL!)

Enter the Lazy Brunch. An a la carte brunch that focuses on a few fresh quality ingredients and doing them well is a brilliant idea. The perfect way to enjoy a meal that isnt quite a breakfast or lunch and should be enjoyed with good company in a great setting for the whole Saturday.

I am a Gordon Ramsay fan and I always wondered if his restaurant would live up to the hype and critical analysis that he has of other restaurants. I went in to Opal in “Gordon Mode” and I must say… I cant find fault with any of the dishes I tried. Overall, we really enjoyed our meal.

Starters:

Opal on a Saturday offers diners a taster portion of all their starters. One is able to then reorder any of the dishes you fancy but I strongly suggest keeping space for the mains.

The starter trays include eggs prepared in three ways were a taste of breakfast.

Next out was a range of fresh salads.

Mains:

Mains are made to order and guests can choose what they would like. Warning: it is tough to choose which main you want to order. Thankfully portions are small so you can order more than one main and no one will judge you 😉

South African cuisine is heavily influenced by British food so I loved the menu. Items like roast chicken and roast beef are what you would have found on my mums weekend lunch table.

Congrats to Gordons team as the chicken was still juicy and moist on the inside (our favourite) and the battered fish with crispy spicy chips served with tartare sauce was perfection!

The salmon had an Asian flavour twist which was light and delicious.

Desserts:

What is a British brunch without an Eton Mess? The signature dessert was a great end to my meal.

If you love salted caramel ice cream and I suggest asking for a scoop. They serve it with the very rich chocolate tart (a little too rich for me) but I would love a bowl (or tub) of that ice cream alone!

My husbands favourite was the french toast with homemade vanilla ice cream.

❣VERDICT:

Lazy Summer Brunch is a more relaxed sophisticated adult weekend brunch. With a beautiful DJ and attentive service, I think this is a top contender on my favourite brunches on Qatar’s list.

In winter, the outside deck should be a gorgeous space to relax, watch the sea and enjoy brunch.
