Shakespeare and Co Qatar

Doha food review:

Shakespeare and Co.

With yards of pink victorian lace draping windows to the velvet plush ornate armchairs that sink your weary body as you sit down to the 17th century flower paintings one could easily mistaken this romantic restaurant and coffee shop for a front parlor room in a Shakespearean novel.

Shakespeare and Co. – the Pearl Qatar has 3 parts. The main dining area, the middle cosy enclosed front parlor section overlooking the marina and the outside deck eating area which will be wonderful in winter.

With stomachs grumbling we headed to Shakespeare and company for lunch with friends. As they have a buy 1 get one free main meal special with the Entertainer we tried out the fish and chips and the chicken cordon bleu. There is an extensive menu filled with light meal options, salads, pastas and not forgetting the extensive cake, dessert and macaron selection.

We were first served a complimentary basket with a selection of delectable hot rolls and a rich herb butter.

The perfectly battered and deep fried medallions of fish were fresh and delicious. Served with french fries, tartare sauce and a small salad. The salad with it had limp browning lettuce leaves which was dissapointing but I would definitely go back and order that crispy fish.

The chicken cordon bleu was a huge portion and we battled to finish it even though we were starving. It was nice but I felt it needed to be served with a creamy sauce as it was ever so slightly dry. It is served with cubes of spicy potato and brocolli.

To end off we treated ourselves to a chocolate fondant which was rich, gooey and decadent as it was perfectly balanced with the vanilla ice cream it is served with. Truly every chocolate lovers dream.

The cheesecake

There are two types of cheesecake in my world. The baked NY type which I love (it can be dressed up or down) and the fridge cheesecake which is more like a rich creamy dessert.

Shakespeare & co serves a fridge cheesecake smothered in a jammy strawberry topping. For me it was a little disappointing as I am not a jam fan and it did not hit the right notes. I also felt the portion is small for the hefty Qar31 price tag.

I loved the ambiance created by the grand decor, the friendly warm service and think Shakespeare & co is definitely worth a visit.

For a relaxed meal or fancy tea this romantic vintage restaurant might be one of the prettiest places I have been.

The outside room in the Pearl branch is a perfect space for a private function.
