Firestation Museum and Cafè #999

FOOD REVIEW: Café #999

A contemporary café in a fire station building serving international cuisine sprinkled with local Qatari influence.

The Doha Fire Station
is part of the Qatar Museum family and is FREE to enter.

The Fire Station includes Exhibitions, Cafe #999, a Gallery, 24 studios, they also offer workshops, a bookshop, and a well stocked art supply store.

The perfect spot for a book club, so off we went to enjoy a breakfast while discussing a captivating book.

The decor was very modern and industrial. A nice spot for a quick coffee or lunch with a friend. The focus is on healthy ingredients including gluten free and organic ingredients.

Lets talk about food, @The Entertainer currently has a special running of buy one main meal and get one free. This offer is only available after 11am so at 10.30am we were not allowed to use our vouchers.

We ordered the poached eggs drizzled generously in a rich creamy hollondaise sauce. I really enjoyed the eggs and they were perfectly cooked. The hollondaise was the right consistency and had a delicious flavour. What I was not happy with was the rock hard croissant under it. I did complain and it was replaced.
In my opinion the croissant should be served on the side and maybe one should have an option of a slice of toast or an untoasted croissant. At only Qr30 the portion was hearty and was very reasonably priced.

The date cupcake had a yummy icing and was something I would order again.

Orders need to be placed at the counter and the atmosphere and decor seemed just a little impersonal for my taste. Loud talking is frowned upon in the restaurant and we were told to keep it down (only 2 other tables were occupied in the whole place), so if your group is large and a little loud then this is not the ideal place as the acoustics of the industrial style building make it seem louder and the staff seemed a little unhappy.

Cafè #999 is a great venue if you are a group of adults but not the ideal venue if you have little kids with as it is too hot to play outside and there is no child friendly space in the restaurant. The cafè #999 menu is also not designed for kids.

*UPDATE:

I visited cafè 999 a few months later for  lunch and to view the new exhibition. When I go to a restaurant I love asking which is the most popular dish on the menu. We both felt for a pasta and the staff assured me that the chicken, mushroom and macaroni was a winner and the most popular pasta dish. We both ordered the chicken macaroni and it was sadly extremely bland, lacking both flavour and seasoning.

Personally I would not recommend the chicken and macaroni.

What is on now at the Fire Station?
