RECYCLING IN DOHA

There is an increasing awareness of the need to recycle in Qatar and an overall wanting to know how we can better the environment we live in. To commemorate Qatar Sustainability Week I felt it was a perfect time to discuss recycling in Doha. Sadly, there is a lack of general knowledge on how to go about recycling in Doha and a misconception that recycling does not exist in Doha.
Once I began my research, I discovered there are many different options and types of recycling to help us achieve our goals.

Below are a list of recycling companies in Doha:

Elite Paper Recycling

Elite Paper Recycling is the largest paper factory in Qatar. They have invested in visiting schools in Doha to teach students about recycling. Furthermore,Elite Paper Recycling has over 1,000 recycling cages located throughout Qatar to collect paper and cardboard. Overall, they collect around 70% of the 4,000 tonnes of paper and cardboard which is thrown away in Qatar.

I was unable to find any company that collects household rubbish for free. I would strongly recommend speaking to your building manager about installing recycling options in your building or work. Together we can make a difference.

I would like to thank Doha Environmental actions group for the amazing strides that they are making in creating a better Doha for us and for some of the information supplied in this article.

Thank you for compiling and sharing all this info on recycling! There are bins at Dahl Al Hamam Park in Doha for paper, aluminum/plastic, and GLASS! I’m not sure who/what company actually collects them, but they are very big and do get collected. There’s an interesting article called “Waste not, want not- Qatar’s progress towards recycling” by Luzita Ball on The Peninsula who writes about this. Just wanted to pass this along with my thanks!

My school has an issue with paper waste. I would like to organise a fund raising event by educating the students on how yo recycle paper; then selling them to a company that recycles. However, I do not know where or how to start. Any suggestions or recommendations would be helpful. 🙂

Thank you for sharing all this. Do we know exactly where and how these companies are recycling what they collect? I’ve heard they take it and just dump it but I have no idea if this is actually true….
